And this is why I love Janeway

See, Leia vs Janeway isn’t fair, he was a love motivated rescue mission, it’s not like she was sitting on her butt doing nothing before that, she’d been working with the rebels, fighting and being awesome. She was the knight in bounty hunter armor. 

Hermione either, unlike Leia, she wasn’t motivated by loosing a man, she was doing that shit anyway and didn’t stop. 

Very true, and very good point.

I guess my issue is with the addition of Janeway, it implies that having a romantic interest makes a female character less somehow. 

Previously, it was a badass off, but with the addition of “Didn’t need a man…” which is partially untrue, she had a boyfriend in the first episode, and “needing a man” apparently means “having a man” according to this, she’s just as guilty.

Which leads to an undermining of a female character’s worth, by crediting their awesome to the men in their lives. I mean, Starbuck got married on BSG, is she suddenly less of an awesome badass viper pilot because she’s flying “for her man.” Hermione is doing what she always does, so is Leia.

It started as a way to poke fun at Bella shutting off for months, now, it’s loosing it’s fun, and is instead claiming the only way a woman can be awesome is if she doesn’t have any romantic involvement.
